Insulation Oil Tests Laboratory

Monitoring transformer performance during the service is one of the most important subject were NEPCO was interested in, So that it works to develop the monitoring action by establishing laboratory that can doing all necessary tests for electrical insulating oil to know the specification for new and used oil according to the international standard method using in the specialist laboratories.

Tasks of Laboratory:

    - To know the physical, Chemical and electrical characteristics oil.

    - Discover the problems in the electrical equipment and appears in oil.

    - Verify from the oil specification and certainty.

Electrical Insulation Oils Tests List:

Test Type Method
Dissolved Gas in Oil ASTM D 3612
Dielectric Strength ASTM D877
IEC 165, VDE 370
Loss Dissipation Factor @ 90 C ASTM D 429
Water Content ASTM D 1533
Neutralization Number (Acidity) ASTM D 974
Interfacial Tension ASTM D 971
Density ASTM D 49
Kinematics Viscosity ASTM D455
Shape & Color ASTM D 1500
Particles Size & Count ISO 11171
Flash Point ASTM D 92

ASTM Oil Sampling & Test:

Constant monitoring of the quality of the insulating Oil is mandatory to ensure along service life for your transformer, Oil sample was taking by laboratories stuff by using modern techniques in collecting sample and according to ASTM D IEC to certify accurate results.

Physical tests:

  - Color.

  - Appearance.

  - Density.

  - Flash Point.

  - Kinematics viscosity.

  - Particle count and size.

  - Refractive Index.

Chemical Tests:

  - Acidity.

  - Water Content.

  - Interfacial Tension.

Electrical tests:

  - Dielectric strength breakdown voltage.

  - Dielectric dissipation factor (tangent d).

Fault Gas Analysis:

Dissolved gas in transformer oil.

Advantages of the filtration:

  - Increase dielectric strength.

  - Remove dusts and contaminations.

  - Remove humidity and water content.

  - Degassing from the oil.

Because of NEPCO’s interested we develop the filtration presses by paying Regeneration Plant to reclaim the oil

  - Improve the color.

  - Remove Acidity.

  - Improve IFT.

NEPCO discussed the importance of the insulation oils tests and the high costs if done in laboratories abroad so NEPCO decided to offer competitive prices for our clients and so it reduce money, time and certify the quality of tests. Accurate results and quick perform acting.
