23% increase in requests for renewable energy licenses

According to recent data issued by the authority, requests last month were distributed between 26 licenses issued for the first time and .25 requests to renew licenses, while the authority did not receive any request to waive previously granted licenses in the sector during this month. Among the total number of students who applied for licenses for the first time, there were applications for establishing renewable energy plants, 5 licenses for working people, 12 public transfer stations, 1 license to operate a private charging station, and 4 permits for public charging stations. During the same month of the year 2020, the number of applications submitted to obtain licenses for the first time reached 29, and requests for renewal of licenses were 7, while the number of requests for waiving licenses or modifying permits in September of last year was 6. Of the total of these requests, 20 requests for permits to establish public stations and 9 licenses for working persons were submitted. It is noteworthy that the installed capacities of renewable energy sources in Jordan amounted to 2,062 megawatts by the end of 2020, contributing about 20% of the electricity generated, and in 2030 it will reach 31%, according to the figures of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. A specialized report said that the trend towards switching to renewable energy in Jordan still exists in accordance with the comprehensive energy sector strategy for the years 2020-2030. Small and medium-sized enterprises witnessed significant growth, as the number of systems connected to the network increased from 292 systems in 2013 to 15,349 systems at the end of 2019.
