The Number of Electricity Subscribers Increased By 12% in 4 Years



The number of subscribers to obtain electricity service in the Kingdom increased by 12.4% during the past four years, according to figures recently released by the National Electric Power Company. According to these figures, the number of subscribers in various regions of the Kingdom increased to about 2.3 million subscribers from about 2.2 million subscribers in the previous year, with an increase of 2.8%, while the number of subscribers in 2016 was about 2.06 million subscribers. These numbers were distributed among the subscribers with the National Electric Power Company (the major subscribers), as well as the three distribution companies in the Kingdom (Jordanian Electricity, Irbid Electricity, and Electricity Distribution). This comes at a time when the rate of increase was higher in the share of the National Electric Power Company, by 15% in 2019 over the previous year, for 46 establishments, including 33 industrial and 10 in the hotel and restaurant category. As for the largest number of subscribers last year, it was in the residential and government buildings category with a total of about 2.01 million subscriptions, then commercial and hotels with a total of 261.3 thousand subscriptions, then industrial with a total of about 18.8 thousand subscriptions, then street lighting with a total of about 13.7 thousand subscriptions, agriculture and water with a total of about 10.5 thousand subscriptions. The company expects an increase in the demand for electric power by the end of the current year, so that the maximum summer load of the electrical system increases by 3% by the end of the year and by 2.9% for the increase in growth in the volume of generated electrical energy purchased by various parties.
