Bio-Gas Company Produces Electricity from Wastes.


The Bio-Gas Company owned by the Greater Amman Municipality and CEGCO becomes able to generate electrical energy estimated by 62.2 million KW) of the wastes during the period from 2000 to 2009 as well as the company was able, during the same period to reduce a total amount of 38 million cubic meters of bio-gas, which is considered a major contribution to solving the problem of global warming on the level of Jordan.

The Director of the company Eng. Samer Al htamlah told (Petra) that the company (a company non-profit) as well as designed to produce electric power to reduce the emission of biogas from landfills by implementing pull systems and the exploitation of biogas, in addition to the exploitation of the organic portion of waste.

Alhtamlah explained that the company is one of the leading companies in the Middle East and contribute to the dissemination of technology and environmental technologies that deal with recovery of energy and clean energy and reduce greenhouse gases. He said that because of their success in achieving the goals that she is planned for her, the Finnish government has agreed to buy carbon credits from the factory at 78.7 Euros per ton of carbon dioxide in support of them by the Protocol (Kyoto), which requires developed countries to reduce greenhouse gases causes such as methane and carbon dioxide.

The company has to deal with about 19 thousand tons of solid waste and about 44 thousand cubic meters of liquid waste, while the production capacity of the gas plant to 60 tones per day, from organic waste from food and fruit and vegetable markets and waste liquid feed plants, milk and yeast.

Alhtamlah demanded the government to facilitate which had been granted to the company, including customs facilities on the grounds that it"s non-profit organization working for the benefit of society in general and try to achieve targets in Jordan access to the principle of the use of renewable energy, including 12 per cent of the energy consumed by the year 2020, the same time pointing to the existence of the feasibility of a large investment in similar projects in Jordan.

He stressed the need to disseminate culture and awareness on the subject of clean energy and bio-gas industry and renewable energy in general. Referred to as bio-gas plant was established in 1998 in the landfill Ruseifa funding from the UN Development Program for the purpose of showing the possibility of using organic waste to produce energy.
